Saturday Reflection: The Digital Composer
On this day in 1906, the great Canadian violinist and composer Murray Adaskin was born. He was famous for taking "classical" European traditions and blending them with a fresh, North American energy to create something entirely new.
It made me think about the work we do here.
Many of us come from "classical" backgrounds—decades in HR, management, or various professional trades. We have the technical skills, the "sheet music" of our careers. But navigating the modern world—especially the complexities of estate administration or the rapid shift into AI—requires us to be composers, not just players.
We are taking our years of experience and arranging it into a new melody:
The Harmony: Using tools like Gemini and digital workflows to stay sharp and "computer literate."
The Melody: Providing a steady, empathetic voice for over 1,100 members navigating difficult times.
The Rhythm: Keeping the pace of a "second act" that is active, curious, and purposeful.
Retirement isn't about putting the instrument away; it's about writing the most important movement of the symphony.
What "new music" are you working on this weekend?
